Worcester

Slightly hungover from the previous night I set out at 2:30pm from Bristol. I followed the A38 (The Gloucester Road) all the way from Stokes Croft to Worcester, stopping for a short time at Gloucester Cathedral I slurped down a relentless, ate a mars bar and then some dried fruits.

I looked at my cycle computer and I had done 35 miles. I completed the remainder of the journey in good time, rarely ducking below 17mph, with an average of 15.37mph, the fastest I have recorded in all the journeys to date. The road was very favorable - that is there were not too many hills and very few junctions at which I could get lost at or turns that would have crippled my confidence.

63 miles in 4 hours and 6 minutes.

When I arrived I called up my friends with whom I was staying for the night and I joined them at "The Plough" and bought a round of drinks, I was thirsty from my efforts and necked a refreshing pint of cider before ordering another. The Plough is a really good pub and they serve olives and nuts by the pint and in a pint glass. Which is, I think, a sign, if not the sign of a quality pub.

Afterwards we went back to the house and drank 'till the early hours of the morning, me being careful to not drink too much, the next day I was to cycle further than I had ever done before, Worcester to Manchester, 114 miles. I beat this record 5 days later with 139 miles, but have not since attempted to cross the 100 mile in a day threshold.
